Join instructor George Menser on Saturday mornings, 10:30 - noon beginning July 12 for FREE basic drawing classes..) "Ready, Set, Draw!" is for youth ages 12-17. Pencils and paper will be provided. You may bring your own pencils and/or drawing pads if you prefer.

Topics that may be covered are: basic use of pencils, drawing exercises, shapes, perspective, layout, and more.

George Menser is the creator of murals in the library, and for many years drew editorial cartoons for "The New Republic" newspaper in Meyersdale and for other newspapers and military newsletters.

At your first session, please bring sample drawings if you have some.

Our annual children's Summer Quest program continues with summer fun!

Join us every Friday morning July 11 through August 8 for stories, crafts, games, guest presenters, and more. The theme is "Color Our World." This is the library's annual summer program for children ages 2 through 11. Children 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The sessions will be held at the Paul Fuller Playground, except in cases of inclement weather. The final session will include a picnic sponsored by Somerset Trust Co.

We encourage you to register in advance, so we can be sure to have enough craft materials on hand!

"The Way We Were" Club

Do you enjoy looking through old photos, sharing memories, and preserving local history? The Way We Were Club may be for you! The library now has thousands of photos and negatives, covering a multitude of subjects, we're received from Meyersdale's former New Republic newspaper. If you like technology, we can even show you how to scan photos for digital preservation! There is no set schedule for the club. It is up to members to decide when they want to come.

Are you a writer, or aspiring writer? Join our writers' group, Pen & Prose! Whether you write short stories, essays, poetry, or are trying to write the Great American Novel, get constructive feedback on your work in a safe, friendly environment. New to the group? Bring a sample of your writing, if you have one to share, for the group to discuss at the first meeting you attend. (No more than ten pages double-spaced, please!) We typically meet the 2nd Thursday of the month at 5PM.
