Sweet Season: by the book

It's just about Maple Festival time! The Pennsylvania Maple Festival is one of our area's sweetest traditions. Even before moving to Meyersdale, I was a fan of pure maple syrup. Living here has made that preference even stronger, and has introduced me to other maple products.

I've made it a point to acquire more maple-themed books for our library collection. There are maple-themed stories for various age groups, books about the process of making maple syrup, and even maple-focused cookbooks.

Please join us here at the library beginning at 7 p.m. this Thursday, April 20th, for a trip down memory lane! Jennifer, our archivist, will be presenting "Maple Festival Memories," a program that will provide an introduction to our festival photo collection inside the Power Library of Pennsylvania PA Photos & Documents online digital archive, a collection made possible through Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission grant funding.

From Power Library, the photos have been harvested into the Digital Public Library of America for the whole world to see our maple memories!

Some of you may remember the Story Stroll we had posted around town a while back, with story pages at various locations. With help from the Meyersdale Area Merchants Association, I'm reviving the Story Stroll.

The first story is all about MAPLE. The Sweetest Season, by Elissa Kerr, is the story of a child and her family, and how they make maple syrup. https://meyersdale.chilipac.com/eg/opac/record/11483788?locg=219

The illustrations are lovely. The author of the book is supportive of us using it -- in fact, during COVID, she gave us permission to make a video of 2020 Maple Queen Maggie reading the book. That video is still on our YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/jYgRBP5f0Hc

Watch for Story Stroll panels appearing sometime this week. (Be patient when they start appearing; it may take a few days to get them all in place.) The starting point, as previously, will be at Success Financial across from the Post Office.

Enjoy Maple Festival, everyone!
