Fall Into a Good Book

Updated: Nov 23, 2022

Fall is here. The weather is cooler, the leaves are changing, school has started, summer camps and activities have ended. As temperatures drop, people tend to spend less time outdoors.

While many of us miss summer weather, and don't look forward to the too-fast-approaching winter, autumn is a nice interlude with charms of its own. I, for one, savor the return of times when (on an evening or a day off) I can curl up in a warm sweater with a fleecy throw and a warm beverage of some kind -- coffee, cocoa, tea -- to read a good book. There is something cozy about time spent that way.

The questions then arise:

  1. What shall I read?

  2. Where shall I get my reading material?

You can probably guess my suggestion to answer question number two. I can also give you some advice about question number one.

Here are some ways our library can help you to find a book that you may enjoy:

Check out our weekly Wowbrary newsletter. It's easy to subscribe, and you may unsubscribe at any time. Just CLICK HERE to subscribe. You'll be able to see what books we've recently acquired. From the newsletter, which shows the newest books, you can click links to see previous weeks. Select a book, and you can view the catalog entry and even place a hold to reserve the book.

Take a look at Vicki Rock's reviews of select books in our collection: Reviews by Vicki Rock. The former Daily American reviewer provides reviews for us on a regular basis. Something may catch your eye!

Try NoveList Plus and NoveList K-8 (for children's books) through the links on our website's Resources Page. There are a variety of ways to find the perfect read. The search bar at the top allows you to enter information about the kind of book you are looking for, and then provides a list of possibilities. There are also browsing options by genre. When you click on a book, there is a link at the bottom of the book information that allows you to check our catalog to see if we have it and if it's available.

Check out a new feature in our patron catalog to help you select your next book. I just learned about this today! Look up a book you like in the catalog. Scroll all the way down to just about the bottom of the item record. Click on the green bar that says "Awards, Reviews, & Suggested Reads."

Among other things, if the book is part of a series, it will show you the other books in the series. It will also provide tags you can click that may help you find another book of a similar type.

One great way to get help finding a book is to ask a library worker! We are always delighted to help you find a book that meets your needs. It's what we do!

Happy reading!
