Meyers Burial Ground
Have you ever wondered about your own heritage? Where your ancestors came from and where they settled? If history and genealogy interest you, check out our research materials in the Pennsylvania Room!
Situated in Summit Township, on the C. C. Heckle farm, the Meyer Cemetery is on the edge of a field near the western terminus of the Western Maryland Railway's Salisbury Viaduct, across from the Casselman River.
The gravestone for Clara and Susan Meyers, sisters who perished during a devastating house fire on the Meyers farmland on June 4th, 1891.
Donald Meyers Watson Jr. poses next to the new interpretive marker that was installed in the summer of 2022 for the Meyers Burial Ground along the Great Allegheny Passage. Watson is a descendant of the Meyers family for whom the cemetery is named and is a former Meyersdale Area Historical Society board member. Take note of the farmland in the background that was once occupied by the Meyers family.
