We’re your friendly, all-purpose public library serving southern Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
We offer books for all ages, Large Print books, magazines, DVDs, e-books, audiobooks, STEM learning kits and educational toys, Wi-Fi, public computers, photocopy and fax service, educational programming, and local history and genealogy resources.

Perhaps you’ve heard about the Worcester, MA library that is doing “March Meowness” and forgiving lost/damaged book fees in exchange for a picture of a cat (or “honorary” cat—puppy, ferret, etc.).
We’ve decided to try that with “A-purr-il Amnesty!” If you’re staying away from the library because you lost or damaged a book, come see us in April with a cat (or “honorary cat”) picture, and all will be forgiven.
There are rules. These are good rules we "borrowed" from the Worcester library:
1. Items must be MPL owned (we cannot waive fees from other libraries).
2. Items waived must be lost for at least 2 months or longer.
3. Items are not guaranteed to be waived, and forgiveness will be given at the discretion of library staff.
4. Accounts with 5 or more items will need to be reviewed by the Director, and patrons will receive a response as soon as possible.
5. You are not eligible for forgiveness if your lost or damaged items can be viewed as an attempt to restrict access to diverse content.
6. Account holders must be present.
7. This is an April event, not a permanent program.
Our Pennsylvania Room is a welcoming research environment that focuses on Somerset County with an emphasis on the Meyersdale area. Genealogy assistance is also available.
